Jay Leaver
Mr. Leaver is President and Geologist of Leaverite Exploration Inc., an independent consulting firm specializing in oil and gas and mineral exploration activities.
Mr. Leaver has been working extensively as a consultant, notably for Read & Stevens, Inc. of Roswell, NM on a project targeting the Third Bone Spring in the Permian Basin. He recently gave a talk at the 3rd Annual Permian Basin Congress (December 2013) discussing horizontal completion techniques in the Third Bone. He has also been working with Read & Stevens on an exploration play in a wildcat area.
Earlier, Mr. Leaver was Vice President of Geology for Sun River Energy, Inc., a small public company. He worked to develop and market Sun River’s oil potential in the Granite Wash of New Mexico and the Pettet and Woodbine of East Texas. He was a member of Sun River's Advisory Board in 2009, and from October 2009 to August 2010 he served as Interim President, during which time the Company acquired critical geophysical data to assist in evaluating their New Mexico properties. Mr. Leaver also assisted in efforts to prepare the Company to launch a new phase of fund-raising and drilling activity, and assisted in compliance and legal issues.
Mr. Leaver received his B.S. degree in Geological Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines in 1986 on a Board of Trustee's Scholarship. While working as a geologist for an aggressive independent exploration company, Mr. Leaver helped develop projects in the Sedgwick, Powder River, Sacramento, Illinois, Appalachian, and Anadarko basins. His work included mapping, economic analyses and geophysical modeling. He later worked for a gold mining company, where he was responsible for maintaining drill hole databases and assisting in the development of geological cross sections for mine models. Subsequently, he spent nineteen years with Thomasson Partner Associates, Inc. (TPA), a prospect and play generation firm on projects in the Rocky Mountain region and the Appalachian, Michigan, and Illinois Basins. He and teams he worked with made discoveries in the Uinta, Denver-Julesberg and Williston Basins, as well as the Boise Basin and the Canon City Embayment. He continues his association with TPA on selected projects.
Mr. Leaver has incorporated gravity, magnetic, geochemical, and surface linear data into various projects, working to integrate these with available subsurface data and both 2D and 3D seismic data. This synthesis of different data types has often yielded insight into the mechanisms of hydrocarbon entrapment in a play area. His work in multiple disciplines led to his promotion to Vice President – Geoscience of TPA in 2006.
In early 2008, Mr. Leaver became Executive Vice President of TPA. Under Mr. Leaver’s guidance, TPA matured a set of choice oil and gas projects: total project sales in 2009 were equal to the entirety of 2008, despite a substantial drop in commodity prices during this period. Mr. Leaver left this position in June of 2010 to join Sun River. He continues to work with Sun River personnel in an unofficial capacity to further the exploration effort.
Mr. Leaver is a member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, the Society of Petroleum Engineers, and the Society of Exploration Geophysicists. In 2009, he was elected to a one-year term as Secretary of the local AAPG Section, the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists.
